My Background Information
My name is Heather Lynch and this is my 11th year at Nellie Stone Johnson (NSJ) Community School and 16th year teaching in general. I grew up in Red Wing, Minnesota and received my Bachelor's degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. While studying at St. Olaf College, I majored in American Racial and Multicultural Studies (ARMS) as well as Social Studies Education. I also received my elementary education teaching license. Also at St. Olaf, I taught a month in Hawaii in a 2nd grade classroom and a 6th grade classroom. Next I taught another month at Andersen Open in Minneapolis in a 3rd grade classroom. Lastly during college, I worked in various classrooms in Northfield for my practicums. After I graduated from St. Olaf, I moved to Avondale, Arizona which is on the west side of Phoenix. I taught at Littleton Elementary School for two years in 5th grade. I learned a lot during this experience, but I missed my family. I moved back to Minnesota and took a teaching position in North St. Paul for three years as a 5th grade teacher. During the fall of 2012, I started my Masters of Arts in Literacy Education at Hamline University. In the spring of 2014, I graduated! The powerful experiences during this program are alive in the work I do daily.
I am so excited to be working here at Nellie Stone Johnson and being a part of the amazing learning community. I've taught at NSJ at a 5th grade, as a reading interventionist, and now the Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) TOSA. Please contact me any time about questions or concerns. I am a partner with you to help your child learn!
On a personal level, in 2015, I welcomed my twin boys, Ethan and Luke. They are my life outside of work and I love watching them grow and learn. My partner and I also enjoy camping and exploring with our boys! Lastly, I enjoy reading children's fiction, spending time with my family and friends, and baking.
